Expanding the range of services in primary care

19 January 2026 | Country Update

From January 2026, family doctors will be given broader powers to independently diagnose diseases and prescribe more laboratory and rapid tests, thereby strengthening their role in patient care. These changes are intended to speed up the diagnostic process, improve the management of chronic diseases, and reduce the need for referrals to specialists by enabling tests such as vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin D, thyroid function tests, Helicobacter pylori antigen detection, and various rapid infection tests to be performed directly in primary care settings.
